It will take a lot of money to get anything that plays easier or sounds better than a G-20 Goya, and I'm not sure it's that possible unless something's mechanically wrong with the G-20. An old friend of mine, Bill Munday, who was the accompanist for the early 60's folk duo "Joe and Eddy" (contemporaries of the "Smothers Brothers") owned a early 60's Goya and told me it was as good as it gets. Compared to the more mass-market birch-backed G-10s - which can be found everywhere - the G-20 is simply on another level. This 58 is also my favorite model - the understated G-20. As he became more well known and certainly more prosperous, he most certainly would have played instruments that were custom-built for him, but at one time, Goya was his guitar of choice as it was for many other professionals. My favorite old classical guitars have all been Swedish, Levin-made Goyas from the 50s and 60s. Go back and look at the late 50's, early 60's tapes of Segovia in concert guess what (?), in the earlier tapes, it,s clearly a G-20, although he may have upgraded to a G-30 when they came out. The G-20 is a high quality workhorse that responds to the touch like a butterfly and can sound like a cathedral bell when it needs too.

The G-10 is a hell of an instrument selling prices, but I personally believe that the G-20 is as good as it gets in terms of playability and sound and that any upgrades would be for slightly better mechanical construction and cosmetic appeal. Only asking 400.00 with a SS case, and shipping inside the US should not be more than 35.00 I am offering this guitar for a lot less than I paid for it.

Go to Goya for the full story of this wonderful guitar. I love the original butter bean tuning knobs. The sound is full and rich and fingering is easy. The top has mellowed to a nice pumpkin color, and has some patina crazing, but the finish is in tact.

A series of herringbone with a small rope design on each side. This adds strength to the neck, and also a touch of class. I love the maple stripe thru the center of the peg head, and this stripe goes all the way down the back of the neck to the heel cap.
